I don't fully understand why some people really love this book, although I can see how the storyline could catch one's imagination and hold it. I remember my mother thoroughly appreciated the movie, as does my husband. Not me! And, unfortunately, for me the book isn't much better ... but I did finish it. I admit the story is quite interesting in places, but it's not one I would ever read again. Sorry. That's my honest opinion. I am not saying not to read Doctor Zhivago; you could be one who loves it. I hope you do.

This is a really good book, I enjoyed reading it. I found the Russian names a little confusing at times, for example Dr Zhivago is referred to as Zhivago (naturally!), Yuri, Yura, and Yury Andreyevich. Although this is typical for Russia, it did make it a little hard to follow when multiple names are used for multiple characters!
