Books 1 (Titus Groan) and 2 (Gormenghast) are excellent and I devoured them both within a few days. I highly recommend reading them both, and if you wanted to, you could stop there... Book 3 (Titus Alone) was never fully finished by Mervyn Peake as he sadly died before he finished fleshing the story out. It is about half as long as the other two books and many of the chapters are very short, however, there is a start, middle and end, so you're not left totally hanging mid-story if you do decide to read it. Make sure you pick a later copy which has the "lost" chapters added so you're getting the most out of it, and keep in mind that this is a bare-bones book and many characters are not explored in the same wonderful depth as I am sure Mervyn (and us!) would have liked.
