I have been in love with greek and roman mythology for years but this is the first time I have read one of the sources for them. I think I feared that the writing style would be too 'antique'. I was delightfully surprised by Fagles' translation and found this to be a fascinating read and gave flesh and depth to many of the myths I thought I knew.

The Odyssey is a classic for a reason. After all, it's essentially the father of all travel novels and road movies. It is a great introduction to ancient Greek literature (which is much more accessible and fun that many people believe) and Greek mythology. It's a story with something for everyone - a little bit of humor, a little bit of tragedy, some action and adventure, some romance, and plenty of blood and guts.
