this was very hard to read....very hard...it really captured the mind-blowing consumerism of the 80s in horrific and morally-empty minute detail. At the same time, the overall callousness of those idolizing status and money...and the madness...the evil... This one hurt; this one was appalling. I'm not sure why my reaction here is different from my reaction to the beat/drugs/Burroughs/Kerouac/etc--with those I was disgusted and didn't enjoy. AP ratcheted up the horror and maybe that's why I dislike it less?

American Psycho is a satirical masterpiece - a dull overview of the life in the day of a seemingly normal businessman, with violent and sexual intermittent outbursts that are so sudden and shocking they'll appall even the most seasoned readers.
