This book is chilling in its depiction of pleasure gained from unprovoked violence. Equally chilling is the programming of Alex to be nauseated to the point of suicide by not only violence but his beloved music. The book makes you question the values of Alex, the "hoolingan" but also the values of a society that thinks it is acceptable to take away free will - neither of these extremes is acceptable.
