I could never get into this book. I did not like the way anything was worded and the whole thing seemed like a drag. I was relieved every time I turned a page, because it meant I was THAT much closer to finishing. It seemed like there was no action, and the book portrayed the natives as practically inhuman. I thought at some point I may be emotionally moved, but that did not happen by any stretch of the imagination. What a disappointment...
Anne was such an amazing girl; it's a shame her life was cut so short. Her dream was to become a writer, and it's comforting to know that even a genocide was not powerful enough to keep Anne's dream from coming true! I truly think every young adult should read this novel.
This was a good book, but it was not great. I really feel like it's one of those books a high school student could get away with just watching the movie rather than reading the book because there was just not much action. It seems like the author wanted to make a statement about racism, so she tried to center a story around it, but she didn't quite make it.
